Things to consider while choosing an outdoor security camera

An outdoor security camera is an integral part of a home or office security system. A lot depends on its performance. Therefore it is important to consider a number of things while using one. Here is a look at things to consider while buying an outdoor security camera.

Image Resolution

The first thing to consider while choosing an outdoor security camera is its resolution. The higher the resolution is the clearer the image will be. Hence, it makes sense to get the highest resolution possible.

Night Recording

The next thing to be considered is whether the camera has a night time recording capability or not. You should check the Lux rating of the various cameras. The Lux is the unit used to measure the camera's ability to record images in the dark. The lower the Lux number is the better night recording, will it offer. There are different Lux values offered in the same price range. In case, the camera has to be installed somewhere with virtually zero lighting, then you should go for an infrared outdoor security camera.

Wired/Wireless

There are both hard wired and wireless outdoor security cameras. Both types have their pros and cons. A hard wired system is definitely more reliable and is much longer lasting. However, it requires a professional installation, which can be really expensive. On the other hand, a wireless system can be installed easily without any professional help, at all. The wireless security devices are actually far more efficient and reliable, but they do require a regular replacement of batteries. This can be a little expensive in the long run.

Audio Recording

Actually, a lot of security systems do not have an audio recording facility. While it is not a necessity, it certainly is a lovely addition. Usually, the audio recording capabilities of an outdoor security camera are not very good at all. Hence, if the audio is important, you should examine the microphone attached to the camera. The better the microphone is, the better the audio quality will eventually be

Expandability

Usually the security camera systems just use a single outdoor security camera as well as a recording device. However, if the security system has to expended one should look for an outdoor security camera that can be expanded to a minimum of a three or four additional camera. Such a camera will not be too expensive.
